A local history book named him and his son Charles as being the first 'white men to plant corn along the Tuscarora River'. According to an 1834 land deed, 128 acres in Tyler Co. was sold to Mesheck Baker, son of Evan, son of Esaias. The land was inherited from father Maurice Baker. This land was inherited from Esaias and John Dorsey Baker's father -- Morris Baker. This land is described as on Middle Island Creek below the mouth of Indain Creek but not adjoining thereto, containing 128 acres it being the tract of land which Morris Baker died seized of, also the same tract on which John Baker now lives.
