Note None of Azariahs Daughters ever married2
Note* PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL DENNEYS IN THIS LINE KEPT THE SPELLING AS'DENNY' Buried Surry County, NC (Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery)(Old Denny Cemetery). There is controversy also on the burial spot. Theprevious description is from William Denney, Pg 11 of Sylvester Denny'sbook says he was buried on a knoll overlooking the Ararat River, on theirfarm near the road about 1/2 mile southwest of Cedar Hill Church! STRANGE FACT: None of his seven daughters ever married! Much of the pertinent information for Azariah Denny line came fromSylvester Denny's book, 'Genealogy of the Family of Azariah Martin Denny'. Tombstone on his grave reflects death date as Oct 11, 1878 whichconflicts with other data. Description of Azariah in Sylvester Denny'sBook (Pg 11) also gives a third possible date of death as Oct 14, 1878. A Butch Johnson visited and recorded graves in a cemetery that he callsthe Azariah Denny Cemetery. I think he refers to the old Denny Cemetery, thus in the future, all references to either of these will mean the samecemetery. It is believed that Azariah donated the land to build the Ceder HillBaptist Church as the land was once his. LANDACQUISITION Azariah purchased land from Timothy Coe in 1816, added a grant of 23acres adjoining his other property from the state of North Carolina in1826, two deeds in 1822 covering 175 acres of land from his widowedmother, Rebecca Denny, and his four sisters and his brother Lazarus. Also, there were deeds in 1832 for 118 acres from Josiah Van Du Pool andin 1835 for 50 acres from Nathan Harris.WIFE ELIZABETH AKA 'BETSY' Elizabeth was the daughter of Enoch Stone who was the son of John Stonewho in turn was a descendant of William Stone, the 3rd Governor ofMaryland. Buried Surry County, NC (Denny Cemetery).ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN William never married, he was big & fat and known as 'Uncle Billy' to hisKin. If this is the William buried in Old Denny Graveyard, death date mayhave been 1891? Nancy never married, lived Surry County, NC. Buried Denny Cemetery,Surry County, NC. Martha never married, lived Surry County, NC. Sally lived Surry County, NC, never married, buried Old Denny Graveyard. Polly never married, lived Surry County, NC, buried Old Denny Graveyard. Elizabeth buried Old Denny Graveyard, never married, lived Surry County,NC. Rebecca died in Infancy-buried Old Denny Graveyard. She was not mentionedas a child in this family by Joel Denny in his Samuel Denny descendantletter. Patsy: Sylvester Denny unsure whether there was a Patsy Denny in thisline since it was not mentioned in Joel's letter, however, there is aPatsy with these dates mentioned as being buried in the Old DennyGraveyard. Her brother William did mention a sister Patsy in his will. Old Denny Cemetery, Denny Cemetery and Azariah Denny Cemetery are all thesame.
