Note* Sarah's husband AKA 'KILLIS' , Sarah AKA 'SALLY'. Kenneth Key gives Achillis' DOB as Dec 18, 1786 and his DOD as Feb 16,1834 Sarah and Achillis Key appeared in the 1810 Surry County census. His agewas shown as between 16-26 and her age as between 16-26. They would havebeen 24 years of age then Achillis was recorded in the 1812 Surry County, NC Tax Lists with 50acres of land. During the 1820 Surry County, NC census, they appeared as one male andone female between 26-45, 2 males between 0-10 (Lewis & William) and 3females between 0-10 (Lucinda, Matilda, and Permelia). During the 1830 Surry County, NC census, the family was shown as one maleand female 40-50, one male 0-5, one male 5-10, one male 10-15, twofemales 5-10, one female 10-15 and two females 15-20. The 1840 Surry County, NC census finds Sarah as the head of household, one male 10-15, two females 15-20, one female 20-30, one female 50-60 andeight slaves. As another example as to why genealogists pull their hair out, Achillis'name appeared as follows: Achillas, Archelis (marriage bond), Achillis(1810 census), Akillis (1819 Court Record), Archelles (1820), andAchilles (1830 census), Killis on 1812 Tax Record, signed as Killas x(his mark) Key on his will. Much of the history and KEY/DENNEY connections in this line werefurnished to me by Kenneth N. Key of Gardendale, Alabama in 1998. Hisreports were outstanding and contributed a wealth of data to my records,my thanks go out to Kenneth and all those who contribute to my work. Somesources that he quotes for his data were: 'Key is my Name' by Irene KeyPadgett; 1860 & 1870 Census Reports; his family records andrecollections; T.D. Boaz, Jr Records; Paula Key Stanley; Paul D.
