| Note* | | Jordan is buried next to his second wife Mary 'POLLY' Gibson atKingsville, Johnson County, MO (Denney Cemetery). This was the familyfarm per Ned Lankford. His DOB based upon his death date and dying at 74 years, 7 months, 21days. His second wife Christina Burris Smith is buried at the Bluff SpringsCemetery, Johnson County, MO where many of the Burris people are buried. She died on Dec 14, 1878 at the age of 62 years, 9 months, 22 days. He lived with his father on Pilot Creek until his father's death &several years after. He then sold out & went to Johnson County, MO &settled near Kingsville. His sons William & John went with him but Harveyremained in NC. Guy Denney contacted some of Denney descendents inJohnson County, MO (John K. Denney) in a letter dated Sep 17, 1940 andfound out that some of them still own and live on the original farm inJohnson County. John Denney (grandson) states that Jordan migrated to MOin 1850. He is shown in the 1860 Jackson Township, Johnson County, MO census asJourdan age 60, blacksmith, born NC, wife Christenia age 45. Living withthem were a John W. Buras age 21 farm hand, William Buras age 8, JamesSmith age 14 farm hand and Mary Smith age 18. The Smith children may havebeen hers from a previous marriage, I have no idea on the Burasconnection but one day more documentation will pop up to resolve it.BINGO: Jan 2000, while working the Burris families that tie into Denneys,it hit me that the children with BURAS spelling are actually BURRIS. Itappears that Henry Burris from Surry County migrated to Johnson Countyaround 1850 also and two of his sons married Denney sisters, daughters ofWilliam Felton Denney who is Jordan's son. Henry Burris died in 1853 andhis wife Sophia died in 1857 leaving young children who apparently had tobe farmed out. The John W. Buras here would be John Wesley Burris thatmarried Jordan's granddaughter Milly and the William Buras would be hisyoung brother that was born in 1852. Another of Henry Burris' sons, Jacobmarried Jordan's granddaughter Rosa Jane Denney. As to the above migration, I have pretty well concluded that Smithsisters, Christina and Sophia married Jordan Denny and Henry Burris inSurry County, NC and that these families migrated to Johnson County, MOabout 1850. This still leaves a mystery of who the Smith childrenmentioned above were! If they were siblings of Christine and Sophia, there would have been quite an age disparity. There are otherpossibilities, perhaps the Smith sisters had a brother & family migratewith them and the parents died leaving children with their aunt, perhapsmy theories are not correct and my first hunch mentioned above is correctin that Christine was not a SMITH but that was a married name and theSmith children were hers. This again will all iron itself out with moreinvestigation. To add further mystery to all of these suspicions, per MarguerettePowell, Christina had a son James Washington Smith. This James wasmentioned in Sophia (Smith) Burris' will as the son of Christina. Jameswould have been born around 1846 and died Sep 12, 1869 age 23 years, 7months. Now this again poses the questions, was he born out of wedlock ,was SMITH her married name and was Sophia in fact a sister or perhaps asister-in-law? The will for Sophia definitely names Christena Smith asher sister and Christina's two children Mary and James. To clear up someof the mystery, Marguerette Powell informs me that Jordan and Christinawere married in 1859 so that pretty well makes it clear they did notmigrate as man-wife and that the Smith children were undoubtedlyChristina's out of wedlock! Per Guy Denney, Harvey Denny descendants are still to be found in NC. First name may have been spelled 'JOURDAN'. He was a blacksmith. Son John went to MO with his father Jordan. Until July 1997, I did not have any children for Jordon and Mary Gibson, unsure of the data on their four daughters, treat this with suspect untilproven out. He may have had a daughter SARAH born 1839 with one of his wives! She wasenumerated with Jordon & wife Christina in the 1860 census as age 21 Federal Census of Missouri Johnson County, Jackson Twp, Columbus PostOffice: 1860 Jordon Dennie 60 Blacksmith N.C.
