He was killed in the last days of the War of 1812 in1813 leaving Martha a young widow with an infant son. She later marriedJohathan Stout in Hardin County and he died young in 1823 leaving Marthawith two step children and another child with Jonathan. She marriedagain, Joseph P. Riley, a neighbor around 1824 in Gallatin County, IL.Joseph had ten children from a previous marriage and Martha and Josephhad one additional child. Martha reportedly was to have lived out her last days of her life prettymuch of a recluse in a small cabin on her son's (William) property inWestville, MO. William Denney gave Marth's year of birth as 1792, Diane Hitchcock Owensgives it as 1786. William & Diane also give different marriage dates forMartha and William West, William shows Jul 4, Diane shows Aug 8, 1811. ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN Martha had one child with Joseph Riley, Pinkney Riley. In 1849, Pinkneywent off to California in search of gold. Martha was never to see heryoungest son again.2 |
