| Note* | Thomas left the following will: Be it remembered that I, Thomas Mendenhall, of Guilford County in North Carolina, being weak in body but sound in sense hath called to mind this eighth day of the tenth month in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty two, the mortality of my body, do therefore make this as my last will and testament and my will is that: First, all my funeral charges and lawful debts be paid. And then I give and bequeath unto my wife, Phebe Mendenhall, all my free hold land house and household goods, all my plantation implements, all my shop tools, my horses, cattle, hogs and sheep to have and hold as myself during her life and after her decease, I give and bequeath unto my son, Mordecai Mendenhall, sixty eight acres of land off the west end of my tract dividing it by a north and south line, also I give and bequeath to Seth Mendenhall sixty-six acres of land joining into Mordecai's divided off by a north and south line, also I give and bequeath unto my son, Enos Mendenhall, sixty six acres of land ajoining to Seth's on the east end of my tract and after the decease of my wife my will is that all my moveables be equally divided amongths all my daughters to wit Mary, Jane, Ruth, Phebe, Beulah and Asenath and if one of my sons should decease under age the land is to be equally divided between the other two the elder holding the west end. Also I make and ordain my wife, Phebe Mendenhall, to be my whole and sole Executor. Given under my hand and seal and we who are present as witnesses hath here unto set our hands the day and date above written. (Signed)Thomas Mendenhall.2 | |
