| Milit-Beg* | 6 August 1862 | Rochelle, IL, Per the 1908 Declartion for Pension application started as a Private. Per Vivienne Jones clerk indicating it joining in Roshell was incorrect but Rochelle near Peter's home. Was appointed Sergeant of John Nelson Company H, 92nd regiment of Illinois Volunteers. Muster Roll dated Sept. 4, 1862 states they were in Rockford, IL. It stated he joined for 3 years from Lane on August 6, 1862. Paid a bounty of $25 and premium of $2. From other muster rolls: On Sept. 1, 1862 appointed 4th Sergeant. On the November-December Muster stated was sick in hospital in Danville, KY. 92nd Ilinois Infantry bacame 92nd Illinois Mounted Infantry July 10, 1863. He became 3rd Sergeant around this time. Around June-July 1864 he bacame 2nd Sergeant. Rolls state he was taken prisoner on either April 13 or 14th, 1865 after Lee had surrendered on April 3, 1865. Was released on May 1, 1865. The 92nd had 5 companies. In September 1863, as part of the Army of the Cumberland, it participated in the battle of Chickamauga. It was with Sherman in his march to the sea and the capture of Atlanta and Savannah, GA. Continued fighting through the Carolinas. 92nd participated in more than 60 battles and skirmishes.10 |

Said claiment lives just across the street from me. and O see him nearly every day. and make the above statement from personal acquaintence with him.13 |
