| Marriage* | 2 October 1850 | Saline Co., IL, Illinois Saline Co. Jones Mcfarlin, --- --- Spouse: Jones, --- Mcfarlin, --- Marriage Date: 02 Oct 1850 Vol. 1 Page. 48 of Saline Co. marriage records. Guess that Rebecca was indeed Rebecca Mcfarlin is as follows. Vivienne Jones noted last name of William's spouse was McFarland but had no first name. Only one Jones - Mcfarlin marriage although first names not given. Ages of William and Rebecca in 1850 census of 20 and 18 seems about right (census taken on Oct 8). There is a 12 year-old Melvina McFarlin in the Household of mother living adjacent to William and Rebecca. The only other married brother has a child of 2 in 1850. No other Jones in the 1850 Saline Co. census had been married within the last couple of years prior to census. No other apparent Jones wife would have an age that matches against the McFarland daughter in the 1840 census of age 5-10 years. Arguments against: Rebecca McFarland's likely father would be James McFarland. He and his wife were not born in Illinois, yet Rebecca has Illinois for both parents (as ditto marks) - could be mistake. Melvina would be in the 0-5 female category for the 1840 census - yet no unaccounted for female McFarland fits that category in Saline Co. The likely parents do have an unaccounted for female in the 5 to 10 category (the other by my guess would be Rebecca). It is possible the McFarlin came from another county. However, based on this circumstantial evidence, I believe Rebecca was a McFarland., Principal=William Jones4,7,8 |
| Census | 8 October 1850 | Saline Precinct, Saline Co., IL, Censuses of the Jones-McFarland family William Jones, (age:) 20, M(ale), (occupation:) Farmer, (value of real estate:) blank, (value of personal estate:), (birth place:) Ill, (was married within the year), (cannot read or write) Rebecca '', (age:)18, F(emale),(birth place: Illinois), (was married within the year) from (Dwelling:)138, (Family:)138 Immediately next to newlyweds are the family of Elizabeth Jones age 53 born in Virginia, John 31 born in Kentucky and indicated as insane, Greenberry age 22 born in Illinois, Jonathan age 18 born in IL, Nancy age 13 born in IL, Milly age 10 born in IL and Melvina McFarland age 12. This family is immediately next to Benjamin Jones age 25 born in IL. I am guessing based on ages, newlywed status, proximity, and birthplaces that Elizabeth is the mother of William and McFarlin is Rebecca's last name., Principal=William Jones8 |
