Note* Johnnie lived in Red Oak, Iowa. He was an expert gambler. In Carrollton, we also had several gamblers, such as “Giant” Harmon and “Slicker” James. Once while visiting in Carrollton, Johnnie cleaned them out. Johnnie could pinch the dice in such a manner that he could just about throw any numbers that he wanted according to “Giant” and "Slicker". Eventually the "Carrollton gamblers" would not let Johnnie shoot with his bare hand. He had to rattle the dice in a container of some kind. In a few weeks after his last visit, he was found dead in a car wreck in Iowa. It was thought by some that the Iowa gamblers put him on the spot.2

Death*16 August 1928 Red Oak, Montgomery Co., IA, From Enola Ziebol: "Johny got killed coming back from a card game or crap shoot. He was in an old touring car and they went to go over a bridge and the lights went out and the car went over the bridge. There were two Jones that got killed in that accident. Johny and another Jones who were not related." Ruby, his daughter agrees with this version. This seems consistant with the newspaper account of his death.4,8,5,9
