| Note* | | From a story supplied by a family member, Samuel was born in the back of a covered wagon on the trip from Meigs Co. to Scioto Co., Ohio. His mother died in Childbirth with his brother Freeman. Samuels occupation was as a farm laborer. I have been unable to locate Sam on a census in 1860, but in 1870 he was located in Clay Tsp., Scioto Co., Ohio working as a farm laborer and living with his father Ira. The 1880 Census finds him living next door to his father and his brother Theopolis and family in Valley Tsp., Macon Co., Missouri with his wife Elizabeth. The 1890 census is unavailable and rumor says that Samuel died in Indian Territory before 1900. I also have been unable to verify this. The 1900 census shows his wife as a widow working as a servant in Labette Co.,Kansas.1 |
