Note* Caroline says: "I am researching a Joseph Adam Sloan who was supposedly from PA in the late 1700's and migrated to the So. east corner of Ohio (Meigs, Gallina or Athens Co) before the beginning of the 1800's. He may have been married to a Eleanor McDonald and a Rachael. He had a son named David and probably a daughter named Nancy, probably more children also."

Katherine says:"I had thought originally that the John Sloan was my Jane's father, However the dates did not allow for that and now believe he was most probably her brother. I also think their father and mother are Joseph and Rachel SLOAN. I have the land records listing the Joseph and Rachel Sloan I mentioned. HOWEVER...and this may be significant...the land was purchased in ATHENS County. In Volume 2, pages 352-3 of the Athens County Deed book Joseph purchased two parcels of land.
1) 109 Acres on 30 Aug 1810 from Jonathan Orr of Muskingum County for
$109. Joseph is listed as a resident of Troy Twp..Athens Co.
2) 112 Acres on 6 Jan 1810 from Nathan Burrill for $300. Both Burrill and
Joseph Sloan are listed as from Troy Twp, Athens Co.
3) on 12 Feb 1816 Joseph and Rachel Sloan sold 50 Acres of this land to Eli
Thompson. In this deed Joseph is listed as from Orange Twp, Athens County.
There is NO Orange Twp. Athens County BUT Orange Twp, Meigs Co. IS right
across the county line in Meigs County..... The very area where the Pratts
Fork cemetery is located. I have the photocopies of these deeds from the Court House in Athens. I think that the Joseph who purchased and sold the land (above ) was most probably the father of my Jane and the John Sloan in the Pratts Fork
Cemetery"

1820: Spouse b. 1776-1794 d. 1820-30?
4 Dec 1828: Is this the same Joseph Sloan that m. Elizabeth Thomas?
1830: I'm assuming that John is his son (no real proof) they are apparent neighbors in 1820-30 and John has a son named Joseph. Note John is brother of Oliver. Looks like new wife in 1830 . Also assuming that Thomas are sons. they fit the 1820 census and listed separately in 1830. If that's true an extra male seems to appear in 1830.
1850: I'm assuming that he is this the same Joseph Sloan b. 1769 Pa. living with Lewis and Nancy (b.1802) Howard in Orange Twp, Meigs Co. OH.??
