Note* In The History of the Millsaps, by Wayne Capooth it is erroneously reported that Mary Ann Millsaps married a second time to D.D. Mendenhall circa 1855. This is unlikely for the following reasons, 1) in the unpublished Millsaps Story, the migration to California account, it mentions that it was believed that Louiza Laney wife of Joseph Millsaps was sister to the wife of Davis Mendenhall. In handwriting on the bottom it says that Davis Mendenhall married Polly Ann Tarry (Laney) 4 April 1853 in Macon Co., MO. Polly was a common nickname for Mary. The account, written br descendants, does not mention Mary Ann the sister left behind. 2) At the Mendehall Family Association website, www.mendenhall.org/mfa/ Dean Leonard GEDCOM they have Mary Ann (Fanny) (Polly) LANEY marrying Davis D. MENDENHALL on 4 Apr 1852, Macon, MO, she was born in 1829 in MO and died 15 Apr 1912, in Chrome, CA - the listed children correspond to those of The History of the Millsaps 3) Vadyn was told (by Polly's daughter) that John L.'s four daughters, Armilda, Liz were half-sisters to Polly and Edna; Polly was born circa 1852 and Edna circa 1860. 4) Mary A. is listed in both the 1850 and 1860 Macon Co. census as wife of John L. Jones (he is as listed widowed in 1880), there is a one year variation in age (19 in 1850 and 28 in 1860).

Children
  • Mary A Jones+7 (c 1852 - )
  • Hardin F. Jones7 (c 1856 - )
  • Edna Gran Jones7,14 (c 1860 - )
  • John Jefferson Jones+ (Apr 1861 - 11 Dec 1930); Father widowed by 1880 census. Know Mary A. Milsap was married to John L. in 1860 census. In 1900 census John J. has mother born in MO. Mary A. listed born in MO. Unless John L. married again between 1860 and 1880 and was widowed again Mary Milsap is probable mother.7
