Cook: 'his paternal grandparents were Eli and Elizabeth (Denny) Cook natives of Ohio. Who in the year 1836 came to Henry county, Iowa settling in Salem township where Mr. Cook entered land from the government. He thus became the owner of many acres northwest of Salem and also large holdings in Salem and he had thirteen children to all of whom he gave land with the exception of one son who went to California and was never heard from again he was closely associated with early pioneer development in his part of the state. And when he passed away in May 1874 the community mourned the last of a representative pioneer, he had survived his wife for only a brief period her death having occurred in Feb. 1874.' William Denney had her husband Eli as DOB Jun 21, 1777 and DOD Sep 28,1778. There is an obvious problem here. Cherie Logan, on her Internet Home Page said that he died at 79y 4m 22d on April 30, 1874, I am using that data for the time being. DOB confirmed by data from Linda Brandt Elizabeth and Eli were laid to rest at the Salem South Cemetery, Salem Township, Henry County, Iowa (Old Quaker Cemetery) From 'Henry County, Iowa, Salem South Cemetery' compiled by the Henry County Genealogical Society, published by the Iowa Genealogical Society: COOK Eli - d. 30 April 1874 - 79 yrs 4 Mos 22 Days Wife, Elizabeth - d. 15 Feb 1874 - 72 yrs 7 Mos 9 Days ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN Nathan may have married a Alameda Carey on Jan 18, 1851. This Alameda was born April 2, 1830 in Indiana. A Nathan Cook and wife Alminda sold land to a Andrew L. Joy on April 28, 1866 in Henry County, Iowa., Principal=Elizabeth Denny3 | |
