Note* In the IGI, and maybe in other LDS material, you will find material on the Breedens put in by a Marie Russo. It is not reliable, for some reason she gives the wrong date for Russell Breeden's birth, etc. Her mother, Fern Russo, was very reliable and did most of the Breedon research I have on our MO family. Fern was married to a son of Tennessee Breedon Ward. I have corresponded with Marie and she is very confused. I don't know why she re-works material her mother did. Fern had access to a family Bible which had a lot of material on Delany & Russell which I have passed along.1
(Witness) Note Grace was born during February, 1883. She had a sad and troubled life. About 1901 she married a neighbor, Erdie Marney, a man much disliked by the McKinney family. At the time, Serena was so poor that the only gift she could give them was a sack of potatoes. They seem to have just drifted about in -a covered wagon. Grace supported her husband while he went to a veterinarian’s school. She is said to have had a kidney removed while living in the wagon, “probably by a veterinarian!”

Erdie then seems to have abandoned her and their two children. James Turley, Grace’s brother-in-law, eventually located her and the children, living in terrible conditions in Chicago, and brought them back to Kansas. For a while, Grace lived with Serena in rooms they rented in Baxter Springs, and walked to a country School outside the town, where she had been engaged to teach. Eventually she lived in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, where she died in the late 1970s., Principal=Grace McKinney2

After Grandfather died they had an awful time, Orpha remembers being told they lived on apples from an orchard that was on the farm and bread. A neighbor named Ewers (I remember some of the family) gave them eggs, but Grandmother sold them. When the Ewers came over she would put the eggs on the table as though they were eating them, but they never did. Note*31 July 1988 Memories of Grandmother McKinney by S. R. their grandson::
[How old were you when Grandmother McKinney died?] I'm not sure. I was away from home at the time. I was working in the oil fields. [What do you remember about her?] All I remember was that she was a very friendly person. Very more or less meek, agreeable. She didn't complain. She lost her eyesight when she was . . . I don't know how old she was. Between 60 and seventy, or somewhere along there. She fell and she broke her hip and she couldn't walk. And then she was bedfast for several years after that. Then she stayed with one of my aunts. And I go up and see them once in a while. Every time I would go into room and I spoke she would say "Russel?" She recognized my voice. She was always glad to see me. She was a little bit of a thing. I guess 90 or 100 pounds somewhere along there. [?] but never complained. [What color was her hair.] Well I mean, it was white when I knew her. [Did you know what her hair color was before?] I never had any pictures of her when she was younger. I never seen a picture of her when she was younger. [Was she there in Kansas?] Yeah. [That's where she died, right?] Yeah. She was in the same community where she came from. [Your Grandfather McKinney was already dead before you were born, right?] Yeah. Many years before I was born. My Dad was only 10 years old when he died. That's one of the reasons we never have been able to get any stories direct from him. [What have you heard about your Grandfather McKinney?]Well, I haven't heard anything other than what you've already heard. Let's put it that way., Principal=William McKinney10
