Note* His mother died when he was a young man. He became very close to his Aunt Edna (nee Jones) McDonald. She became like a substitute Mother. He was a quiet person, did not really talk about his family.2

Milit-Beg*October 1936 Des Moines, Polk Co., IA, Served in WWII (Pacific Area), served in Phildelphia, Norfolk, 2 years in Panama, returned from Panama to the West Coast, retired in San Diego, California. Was in Navy at time of his Mother's death.2,3 
(Witness) Death17 November 1938 Runnells, IA, From obituary: "She was a kind and loving neighbor, loving companion and a dutiful mother and retaining many friends wherever she has lived." "She was a home loving individual, rather jovial, yet reserved in so much as to make her loved by many. By vocation she and the husband were miners. She was not exceptionally strong yet never complained but little having contracted a cold which settled in her head and in 48 hours she bid adieu to this live at the age of 42 years and 8 days, on November 17, 1938 at their Runnells home." Date Conflicts: Obituary states November 17, 1938. Edna Jones bible gives both 17 Nov. and 17 Dec. 1938. The Morris - Sloan - Mathis Family History states Nov. 17, 1928 that is wrong since she is mentioned in mother's obituary., Principal=Vina Jones4,3 
Milit-End*1959 San Diego, CA, After leaving the Military first in 1959, he returned to Iowa and rejoined the service for a few more years. In total he had 30 years of service (per the Military - note that Jane acknowledges that the years don't add up, given when he started the Police Department). Retired as a Chief Petty Officer.5
