| Note* | SPENCER (known as Spencer Sr. or Spencer of New River) Northern Neck Warrant, 16 April 1768 (land eventually patented to Jacob Follis/Fallis, assignee); resided on Meadow Branch, Dunmore- Shenandoah Co., VA; Little Fishes River, Surry Co. NC; Shenandoah Co. VA; Wythe Co. VA. D. prior to 1808, Wythe Co. VA.; no probate records as such, but resolution of estate lists heirs (Wythe Co. Orders, 18005-089 p. 331) Sept 1808: CHILDREN: A. Spencer Jr. & Winney his wife B. Silvia & husband Jacob Cup C. Elizabeth & husband Wharton Nunn D. Nancy E. Bryant While Spencer Sr.'s family was in Surry Co. NC, a William Breeding was charged with high treason and ordered sent to Salisbury Superior Court for trial; Wharton Nunn was bondsman for William in the astronomical sum of 50,000£, however no further mention of the case has been found. (16 Aug. 1780 Surry Co. NC Court Minutes). This has lead some to the conclusion that William was a son of Spencer Sr., but this is unknown.1 |
