Note* Azariah is the 2nd GGF of Willian Denney, Vancouver, WA. William is responsible for the majority of data herein on Azariah's line. Stanly White also contributed a great deal of material to help me update this line. Much of his data was obtained from Quaker Records. Per Wiliam Denney, Azariah owned and operated an Inn at Westfield, Hamilton County, IN. William thinks that the Inn that he operated is now part of the Conner Prairie Museum/1830s Town that is owned by Earlham College. The Inn is now called the Golden Eagle Inn. He moved to Preble County, Ohio About 1825 and then about 1839 went to Westfield, Hamilton County, Ohio. The 1850 Hamilton County census conducted on Aug 15, 1850 finds the family as Azariah age 50, a farmer with $1200 in Property and born NC, wife (2nd) Lydia age 35 born Ohio, Sarah Hamlin age 16, Almira Hamlin age14, Margaret Hamlin age 11, and John Hamlin age 7 (Children of Lydia's from first marriage, all born Ohio), and Rebecca Denney age 7 months bornIN. It appears he may have moved to Newburgh Township, Fillmore County, MN during the 1850s and then back to Hamilton County, IN during the 1860s as that he was appearing during the census taking. This may have occurred after the death of his wife Lydia in 1864. The 1860 Fillmore County, Newburgh Township, MN census conducted on Jul 10, 1860 finds the family as Azariah age 60 a farmer with $3000 in real property and $300 in personal property, wife Lydia age 44, Lydia's children from first marriage Sarah Hamil age 26, Almira Hamlin age 24,Levi Hamlin age 22, Mary Ann Hamlin age 20, Hannah Hamlin age 18, and John Hamlin age 16. Notice that three additional Hamlin children have been picked up since the last census, it appears that Lydia's first husband attempted to raise some of the children and turned the chore over to Lydia, or he died! Azariah's children during this census was Rebecca age 10, Amanda J. age 8 born IN, Azariah N. age 5 born IN, Lydia E. age 3born IN, and Juliette age 1 born MN. The 1870 Hamilton County, IN census conducted on Aug 19, 1870 finds the family as Azariah age 70, a farmer, wife Rachel age 38 born NC, daughter Lydia E. age 13 born IN, and daughter Juliette age 12 born MN His second wife Lydia was laid to rest at Hesper, Winneshiek County, IA His third wife Rachel was laid to rest at the Friends Cemetery, Noble Township, Wabash County, IN
ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN Son Azariah was laid to rest at Hesper, Winneshiek County, IA Daughter Lydia was laid to rest at the Friends Cemetery, Noble Township,Wabash County, IN Azariah's grandson Nathan Denney married Ann Elizabeth Jeffrey, a daughter of Sarah Jenkins Jeffrey by her first marriage, Sarah married Azariah's son Joel!2
