Note* William was disowned by the Elk Monthly Meeting (Preble County, Ohio) on 7 June, 1828. No reason was given for the action. He was received in membership at the Sugar River Monthly Meeting(Montgomery County, IN; 5 miles northeast of Crawfordsville, IN) on 1 October, 1831 with the consent of the Elk Monthly Meeting. The Sugar River meeting accepted him in their minutes on 15 October, 1831. William does not appear in the 1840 census for Montgomery County, IN (no Denney's were listed). Per the memoirs of Jehu Ellis by Elizabeth Lawrence (his daughter), William and wife Beulah had three children and left Tippecanoe County, IN for Iowa in 1840. Beulah was born in TN, moved to Clinton County, Ohio and then to Tippecanoe County, IN about 1825. The Tippecanoe Historical Library has an extensive file on the history of the Ellis families which was donated by family members. On October 16, 1842, minor Denney children of William and Beulah granted a certificate to Pleasant Plain MM, Iowa. On September 16, 1848, William Denney is disowned at Pleasant Plain MM, Iowa. There is a William Denney that died at age77y 1m 27d on Oct 17, 1877 and is buried at the Van Horn Cemetery, Cedar County, Iowa. He had a wife Fidesta, wonder if it could be our William!2
