| Note* | [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 4, Ed. 1, Tree #4078, Date of Import: Feb 27, 1998] W. A. Ringstaff had relatives in West Tennessee (Uncle Henry Ringstaff) and Alamance County, NC (Cousins Bill Ringstaff & Chris Ringstaff, Uncle Tom Ringstaff). Place names mentioned (by Estella Pearl ) include Saxapahaw, Long Branch and Stetphun?. Arleeta Ringstaff remembers W.A.Ringstaff as being referred to as a 'bushwhacker'. She says he was not in the Civil war (this term is used for a Confederate guerrilla). 1850 US Census shows (in the South District of Alamance County, NC) the family of (#376) Henry (25) and Letty (26) Ringstaff, with children Sarah C. (9), John D (1) and Betsey (2/12) the recording taken 10/12/1850. He was a farmer with real estate of value $108. Also listed was the family of (#137) James(54) and Rebecca(54) Ringstaff with son James(25), farmers, all born in NC. Recorded 8/17/1850. Don't know if these folks are related, but a copy of their census records are in my file.1 | |
